The history behind the "Farm Cottage" label dates back to over 100 years ago when the original owners built a cottage out of heart redwood on the land.
In 1997 the property was purchased by the Alfaros from the couple who was born in the original structure. Three generations had passed down through the cottage.
In 1997 Ryan's parents began to restructure the home, keeping its original "bones" and architectural design. Richard and Mary Kay Alfaro made sure to resurface the outside with heart redwood.
After the re-model, Ryan's grandparents moved into the "Farm Cottage," where they lived for 20 years.
Ryan Alfaro moved into the "Farm Cottage" post-completion of his graduate degree at University of Auckland.
In essence, the "Farm Cottage" is where Ryan develops his tasting palate, but also philosophizes on how to continue improving his winemaking abilities.
